How to Conceive the Gender of Your Choice –
If you have been
trying to have a baby, then the thought will undoubtedly have crossed your mind
of what sex it might be. Now, in most cases you may not be all that bothered
which sex it is. Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, after all! But if you
have already had several children of one sex, or want a child of a particular
sex for some reason, then the idea of having a child of a different sex may be
quite a stressful one and you may want to consider learning how to conceive the
gender of your choice.
If you are someone in this position, then you may want to check out a
book by Ashley Spencer called which claims to
have helped 11,993 couples to choose the sex of their baby using a natural
method that Ashley discovered in her research and which she claims has a 94.8%
success rate.
The book was born after Ashley herself gave birth to her third boy and
found herself mired in depression because he wasn’t a girl. At this stage,
desperation became the mother of invention and Ashley knew that she had to find
a way to conceive a baby girl no matter what the cost in terms of money or
effort. She started to dig deeper than she ever had before into pregnancy
research, seeing which showed promise, what worked and what didn’t.
The journey came to fruition with her husband stumbling upon a “lost
seminar” that held the secrets that she had always been searching for, but
until now hadn’t found. What she found when she watched this seminar with her
husband amazed her!
There WAS in fact a method that had a stunning 94.8% success rate when
it came to gender selction! It had been
hidden in plain sight all the time, and Ashley knew that she had to test it out
and complete her family with the girl that she had always so desired.
She set to work on becoming an expert in what was needed to make the
method succeed, and had the full backing of her husband who also had similar
goals. The first thing she did then was to apply the method she had discovered
in her own life.
In truth it wasn’t all that difficult. She was amazed that the changes
she needed to make in order to conceive the baby girl that she had always
dreamed about were actually quite small and subtle, and she wondered if it
could really be this easy. Had the secrets been staring her in the face all the
time and she not seen them?
Well, 9 months later, Ashley finally gave birth to the baby girl she had
always dreamed about and is living proof thatgender selection methods can work.
Her family was complete and she decided to share her new knowledge in a book to
help other desperate families achieve their dreams. Click this link to find out

The question of
whether or not it is a worthwhile investment to explore ways that you can
choose your babies gender is clearly a personal one. It may even be that when
you first started out down this path, you never even realized that it was
possible to influence the sex of your baby before conception. In actuality, there
is good evidence to show that in fact there are things that you can do to
influence it!
Alicia Pennington is the author of “ which is a
guide to how you can influence the sex of your baby before conception.
“Choose” is honestly perhaps too strong a word for the method that
Alicia recommends, because the fact is that this is not a “Magic Stork”
solution, and so there is still the possibility that your baby could be of a
gender that you wouldn’t have chosen. But the method does swing the odds
dramatically in your favor because it is based on firm science as to how
conception really works.
Alicia Pennington herself admits that it dramatically increases your
chances of having a baby of the sex that you want, and that is closer to the
mark. In fact, she claims that 94% of the couples who have followed her method
have ended up by having the sex of child that they wanted.
This program could be of benefit to you, for example if you already have
a child of one sex and want a second child of a different sex. Or, if perhaps
you have had several children of one sex, like Victoria Beckham, for example
who had three sons before finally having a girl, but would really love a child of a
different sex to complete your family.
If you are in this position, then undoubtedly the small investment in
Alicia’s book is something to consider.
Alicia is medically trained in this field, having been a midwife for a
period of 12 years, and so this is a subject that she knows directly from the
trenches. She talks about how during that time she met many families who were
in the position of desperately wanting a child of a particular sex, and how
this inspired her to start out on a journey to discover methods whereby women/couples
would be able to choose the sex of their babies before they conceived.
When Alicia herself was about to start a family, she dived into the
process of researching if there were methods that she could use to choose the
sex of her very own child. In effect she became the guinea pig for her own
method!
She decided along with her husband to have a baby girl and sure enough,
9 months later she was blessed with the arrival of her daughter Marie.
The real question that you need to answer before investing in this
method is how much you really want a child of a particular sex. If the answer
is “a lot”, then this is certainly worth checking out Click this link to find out more.
There are many different things that can decide the gender of your
future child. The dietary choices you make may have a big impact! Natural
gender selection relies on a few different techniques to help increase the odds
of having either a baby boy or a baby girl. While these methods are not 100%
reliable, most couples have found that they do end up with the gender they
wanted. Realistically, it is a 50/50 chance, but there are a few things
you can do to swing the percentage in your favor.
The foods that you eat can affect the future gender of your child for
many different reasons. The main one is that your body’s PH needs to be at a
certain level for each type of gender. The sperm that carry the chromosomes
that decide baby’s gender require a different PH for a successful trip to the
eggs for fertilization.
Sperm responsible for conceiving a boy carry the Y chromosome. They are
small, agile and must reach their destination quickly before they expire. They
need an alkaline environment in order to help reach the egg first.
The sperm responsible for conceiving a girl carry the X chromosome. They
are much larger, more durable and though they may take longer to reach an egg,
they have a greater chance of living long enough to do so. They prosper in an
acidic environment.
Choosing the right foods to balance your PH levels appropriately may
indeed have an impact on the gender of your child.
Eating for a Boy
If you want to have a boy, foods that contain potassium and sodium are
very important. They are non-acidic by nature and will boost your body’s
alkalinity. The recommended foods include bananas, sweet corn, red meats, and
even sausages. It is important however that you eat these foods in moderation
and include a healthy and balanced diet for proper health. Having too much
sodium is never recommended. You should still aim to stay within proper dietary
guidelines at all times.
Eating for a Girl
In order to have a girl, you should focus on foods that will boost
acidity in your body. They include foods that are rich in magnesium and
calcium. Broccoli is the perfect example of a food that contains high levels of
both. Other foods you can eat include grapefruit, apples, dairy products, some
fish (farm raised to avoid high levels of mercury) and leafy green vegetables.
What to Remember
Everything in moderation is key as well as proper nutrition. While there
are other methods of selecting your child’s gender naturally, combining them
with a proper diet will increase your chances for success. Ask your doctor if
you have any questions about the foods that you should be eating Click this link to find out more. http://bit.ly/1ANkccV
If you want to try
to increase the chances of having a boy or a girl, sometimes it all comes down
to how you do it – literally. While there is no 100% method that will guarantee
that you can select the gender of your child, there are specific positions that
you can try that will increase the likelihood of selecting the gender you hope
for.
How it Works
This works for a variety of different reasons, but is based in the fact
that the two kinds of chromosomes that are responsible for gender selection are
carried by sperm that are very different. The Y chromosome is responsible for
conceiving a boy. The sperm that carry this chromosome are small, quick and
able to cover the distance to the egg very rapidly. The downside is they don’t
live very long and if they have to swim too far, they won’t be able to complete
their journey successfully.
The X chromosome sperm are responsible for conceiving a girl. These
sperm are much larger, and move quite a bit slower. However, they live a lot
longer and have more endurance when it comes to reaching the egg.
Because the Y sperm need a little extra help in reaching their
destination before they expire, positions that allow deep penetration are
essential. The goal is to have the man orgasm as closely as possible to the
neck of the cervix. This reduces the amount of time that the sperm will need to
spend getting to the egg and closes the distance.
Positions that allow for this to occur include woman dominant, or woman
on top as well as its other variation, commonly called Reverse Cowgirl. (Most
men are a big fan of this one yes?) In these positions, the woman is on top of
the man and can control how deeply he penetrates her. At the moment of orgasm,
the woman should allow the man inside as deeply as possible.
There are a few other positions as well, but the important thing to
remember is that the deeper the penetration at the moment of orgasm, the more
likely you are to have a boy.
If you would prefer to have a girl, the proper positions involve much
shallower penetration. The X sperm are much more durable and need a little more
time to reach the egg, allowing the Y sperm to die off before they get there.
This means that the man should orgasm as far away from the neck of the cervix
as possible.
Positions for shallow penetration include missionary, spooning and the
lotus position where the couple wraps their legs around each other while sitting.
The positions do not allow for deep penetration and the desired result of
increasing the likelihood of having a girl can be achieved.
There is one more thing to remember when choosing a position for
choosing gender. If you do want to have a boy, it is important that the woman orgasm before the man. This changes the PH near the cervix,
making it more hospitable to the Y sperm. The opposite is true if you want to
have a girl. Click this link to fine out more.
Choosing the gender
of your child may seem impossible, especially if you are not considering
genetic manipulation. However, there are several techniques that can increase
the likelihood of conceiving the gender of your choice. While there is no 100%
accurate way to naturally select the gender of your future child, you can
increase the likelihood of having a boy or a girl by following some very easy
steps.
The sperm that are responsible for having a girl carry the X chromosome.
These sperm are slower than their Y counterparts and require a few different
techniques if you want to ensure that they successfully reach the egg first
resulting in a girl.
1. Eating the Right Foods
In order to have the right PH balance in your body to ensure that the X
sperm can reach the egg, you need to give them an environment that is acidic.
This is considered to be ideal. Recommended foods include broccoli, apples,
fish (as long as it is farm raised and contains no mercury), and dairy
products. Focus on foods that are high in calcium and magnesium for the
ultimate balance.
2. Getting Sex in at the Right Time
In order to give the X sperm the chance to reach the egg, you need to
time intercourse so that by the time you ovulate, the Y sperm have already died
off. This means that it is ideal to have intercourse two to three days before
you ovulate. Sperm can remain viable within the body for up to five days and X
sperm live longer. By the time the egg drops from your ovary, the only ones
left will most likely be the sperm that carry the X chromosome.
3. Choosing the Perfect Position
In order to give the X sperm the edge they need to outlast the faster Y
sperm, sexual positions that offer shallow penetration are ideal. Positions
such as missionary are perfect for this, but any position where the man does
not orgasm deep within the vagina will work. Once again, you are stacking the
deck so that the longer lived X sperm can outlast the Y sperm before they reach
their destination.
4. Sorry Ladies- Men First
Whether or not a woman orgasms before a man does have some determination
in the gender of the child they will conceive. This is due to the fact that
once you orgasm, the PH inside the vagina changes due to the secretions. Before
an orgasm, the environment within the vagina and around the cervix is acidic,
which is perfect for sperm carrying the X chromosome. Once you do orgasm, the
secretions change the PH to more alkali in nature, allowing the Y sperm the
chance to get through. It is recommended that a woman not orgasm first when
trying for a girl
4 Tips for Conceiving a Boy http://eepurl.com/bemutD
Natural gender
selection has been practiced for centuries and while there are plenty of Old
Wives’ Tales, some of them are actually grounded in scientific fact. Naturally,
there is no 100% guarantee that following these techniques will result in
having a child the gender you want, but they can increase the likelihood that
you will get what you want.
If you are trying to have a boy, it is important to remember that the
sperm that carry the Y chromosome, the one responsible for determining the male
gender, are much different than the sperm that carry the X chromosome, or the
one that is responsible for determining the female gender.
Factors that can assist the Y sperm in reaching the egg first, resulting
in a boy.
1. Your PH Balance and Diet
Y sperm require a PH balance that is more alkali than acidic. This means
that you will need to adjust your diet, somewhat. Foods that are rich in
potassium and sodium are ideal if you are trying to have a boy. This includes
foods like red meat, bananas, peaches and sausage.
2. Getting Sex in at the Right Time
Timing is crucial if you want the Y sperm to reach the egg before the X
sperm do. This means that you will need to schedule intercourse as closely as
possible to the day that you ovulate. The egg is viable for a period of 24
hours, and this will give the Y sperm enough of a chance to reach the egg while
they are still viable as well.
3. Choosing the Right Position
The position that you choose also affects how quickly the Y sperm will
reach the egg. It is important to use a position that will allow for deep
penetration so that the man can orgasm as closely to the neck of the cervix as
possible. Positions that allow for this include woman dominant, or woman on top
as well as doggy style or rear entry.
Interestingly enough, if a woman orgasms before a man does, it increases
the chances of having a boy. This is due to the fact of the secretions within
the vagina that occur during an orgasm. They shift the balance of the PH to
more alkaline, allowing the Y sperm the perfect environment they need to make
it through the cervix. Click this link to find out more.
Timing Intercourse to ‘Choose’ the Gender of Your Baby
While there are no guarantees to getting what you want when it comes to natural gender selection, there are surely a few things that can be done to increase the likelihood of having a baby boy or baby girl. If you specifically hope for a boy or girl, it certainly can’t hurt to try a few natural techniques right? (At least this is what I’m going with.)
In order to understand how the timing of when you have sex can impact
the gender of your child it is important to look at two different things –
first, how ovulation works and second, how the differences in sperm affect this
timing.
Ovulation- Releasing of the Queen Egg
Every month, there is a window of fertility that is approximately only
five days long. Three days prior to ovulation to one day following ovulation
are the best times to conceive. Remember, the egg only has a shelf life of 24
hours, while sperm can live for up to five days in the woman’s reproductive
tract. Though each woman is somewhat different, this is the generally accepted
“window of fertility” that occurs every month.
So, now that you’ve narrowed doing the deed down to these five days of
the month where you are fertile, you have to figure out how to time your
intercourse to help choose the gender of your child. That should be easy right?
Ok, not so much!
Sperm Basics
A sperm carrying the Y chromosome will result in a boy if it
successfully fertilizes the egg. A sperm carrying the X chromosome will result
in a girl. There are some main differences in these sperm which plays a role in
all this. The Y sperm are very small, but also very quick and agile. The main
downside is that they don’t live very long. The X sperm are bigger and much
slower, but on the flip side, they live a lot longer.
So in timing sex in order have a boy, it is vital to allow the Y sperm
the time they need to reach the egg first. This means that you need to time
intercourse on the day that you ovulate. The Y sperm won’t live much longer
than that 24 hour period that the egg is viable and you need to give them that
chance to meet the egg.
On the other hand, if you want to have a girl, you should time intercourse
to two to three days prior to ovulation. During this time, the Y sperm will
have died out, leaving the slower but more durable X sperm behind. This greatly
increases the chances that you will have a girl.
There are also many other factors that can affect the gender of your
child including such diet, and even the sexual position that you use, but
timing it properly can help you naturally select your child’s gender.

4 Things to Know Before You Get Pregnant
The road to
conception can be very smooth for some couples, while others find that it can
take years before they are able to become pregnant. While there are many
factors that can affect successful conception, understanding some basic things
can help make your journey easier. If you are trying to conceive, here are a
few things to keep in mind.
1. Know Your Monthly Cycle. One of the best ways to increase
your chances of becoming pregnant is to understand how your monthly cycle
works. Every woman is different and in some cases, every cycle is different.
Before you conceive, take a few months to chart your cycle from beginning to
end. Keep track of the first day of your period and when you ovulate.
This information will help you determine when you are most fertile and
when you should be scheduling intercourse. I know it can kill the romance to
schedule sex in, but if you do want to conceive quickly, and especially if you
want to try to push for a specific gender, this can really help.
2. Predict Your Monthly Ovulation. In order to find that window of
opportunity, you have to know when you ovulate. There is a period of five days
within each cycle that you are at your most fertile. The three days preceding
ovulation and the day following ovulation. Once you know when this occurs, you
can greatly increase the likelihood of fertilization.
Remember that once an egg is released from an ovary, it only has a
period of 24 hours when it remains viable. It is vital to make sure that you
are having intercourse as close to the date that you ovulate as possible.
3. Get Healthy Ahead of Time. In order to be at your most
fertile, you need to take care of yourself. Start taking prenatal vitamins
ahead of time and have yourself looked over by a doctor. If you have noticed
any irregularities with your monthly cycles, now is the time to talk about it.
Getting plenty of rest and practicing a healthy lifestyle can go a long
way. Try to remove stress from your life and take good care of your body. Being
pregnant is not an easy task!
4. Don’t Get Discouraged. It can take a healthy couple
a year to conceive naturally, so don’t give up if another month goes and your
not-so-fun friend shows up right on schedule. This advice can help you to
increase your chances of becoming pregnant in less time. But, if you don’t
conceive right away, don’t get disheartened.
I recently went to a lecture given by one of the top infertility experts
in the country who said that if you are 36-37 it is best not to wait it out if
you are having trouble getting pregnant. Research shows that our egg count drops
rapidly at this age. As he said, “You don’t want to waste precious time.”
My advice, consider being evaluated by a fertility specialist if you find
yourself in this situation month after month. Since I am at this age bracket,
I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Nothing like a clock screaming in your ear to
hurry up and make the decision of whether we are going to try for another
baby Click this link to find out more. http://bit.ly/1ANkccV
Can I Conceive Now? The Ins and Outs of Ovulation http://eepurl.com/bemutD
Just
saying the word ovulation makes my husband want to vomit. (Though not sure why
it grosses him out so much.) But, if you want to get pregnant then it’s
important to know when you ovulate and also to be able to spot ovulation
symptoms that warn you that ovulation is happening. There are a number of
ovulation symptoms that you can look out for that will tell you that it is
just around the corner, so that you can prepare yourself (and your partner) for
doing the ‘deed’ and hopefully, conceiving a baby.
Sign
#1: Me so horny…
The
first of these is that you will likely experience as an increase in desire
for sex. (Boy is this true for me and is
especially so as I get older. TMI…sorry.) When you are at your most fertile,
your body wants you to reproduce (that whole nature thing at work) and so you
will find that you want to have sex more. This is something that you obviously
have to gauge for yourself, but if you really start to pay attention to your
body, then it shouldn’t be too difficult to judge if you are feeling hornier
than normal.
Sign
#2: Damn my boobs hurt!
The
second most noticeable symptom of ovulation for many women is that ‘the girls’
(i.e. your breasts) will feel tenderer. This isn’t a 100% accurate signal, but
is a surprisingly good indicator. You may however find that the tenderness
actually comes immediately after ovulation, so in some cases experiencing this
may actually be an indicator that the horse has already bolted.
Sign
#3: Gotta love that discharge.
The
third most noticeable symptom is one that you will need to check carefully and
one where you really need to know how your body usually operates. This involves
checking the consistency and the amount of your cervical mucus. Typically, when
you are ovulating, your cervical mucus becomes far more evident and abundant
and becomes more watery in appearance and consistency. This is in direct
contrast to periods of time when you are not ovulating where the quantities of
cervical mucus go down considerably, and take on a much creamier appearance.
Sign
#4: The old temperature trick!
The
fourth most noticeable symptom is tracking your body’s basal temperature. After
a woman has ovulated, her basal temperature will rise up by fractions of a
degree. The reason for this is because of the increased levels of progesterone
in your system.
If
you track this temperature consistently, then this is a very good indicator of whether
or not you have ovulated. Not to mention, a cheap way to keep track of it,
because essentially the only special equipment you need is a thermometer.
The
downsides to this particular approach are that for some women it can seem a
little overwhelming to constantly be taking their temperature and it can also
be time consuming, as well as the risk of becoming obsessive. (Don’t make you
temperature some huge science experiment!)Take note that the other major
downside is that it is NOT 100% accurate because certain factors, such as sleep
patterns, can affect how accurate it is.
One
good option to determine ovulation, if you are not concerned about the cost, is
to buy an ovulation predictor test. The way these work is a bit like a
pregnancy test, in that you have to pee on a test stick. It is however quite a
bit more involved, because you have to do this every day in the week before you
expect to ovulate.
This
test determines whether or not you have raised levels of luteinising hormone,
which would indicate that you are ovulating.
You
can also find ovulation calculators online which claim to be able to do much of
the above. But in practice you are better off to look out for the above
ovulation symptoms and check in with your body on a regular bas. Here is the

How to Conceive a Boy
Follow the Chinese Lunar Birth Calendar
Although most doctors and fertility experts claim
that we can’t influence whether we have a girl or boy, there’s certainly a lot
of compelling anecdotal evidence out there to the contrary.
Some parents are absolutely convinced that they
conceived a baby boy by following certain techniques, changing their diet,
using various “positions” in the bedroom or even drinking particular
concoctions. Although medical doctors largely disregard these rituals as old
wives’ tales, it can’t hurt to try a few, right? (Well, depending on the method
or “position,” it could hurt a little.)
If you’re absolutely determined to have a baby boy
and are willing to try anything, consider these tricks that some parents,
astrologists, and even a few doctors swear by.
This famous gender-predicting calendar was
purportedly drawn up by a Chinese scientist and then buried in a royal tomb 700
years ago. Or was buried for 700 years until a Chinese scientist dug it up. Or
was it devised by a 700 year-old Chinese scientist? Well, something like that …
the history and background behind it is not easy to establish, but how to use
it is. With this mystical calendar, a baby’s sex is determined by the mother’s
age and the month in which she conceives.
Lunar calendar adherents say the chart is 99
percent accurate. (I must admit, it correctly predicted the gender of my little
girl.) Working backwards, you can use the Chinese lunar calendar to find the
month that will help you conceive a boy. If you are intent on this method, some
practitioners say there are rules to follow, such as not trying to conceive
during the very beginning or very end of a boy-yielding time frame.
Eat a Boyish Diet
Some gender-predicting “experts” claim that
following a specific diet for a few weeks before conceiving could increase your
chances of having a boy. They say that switching your diet changes the pH
balance in your body, which some believe contributes to the sex of your baby.
According to this theory, your daily “boy
producing” menu should be packed with plenty of salty foods, red meats, eggs,
peas, raisins, zucchini, mushrooms, beans, sweet corn, bread, and fish. This
diet also recommends you avoid acidic foods in quest of a more alkaline (less
acidic) environment for the boy-bearing sperm to thrive. (An alkalizing diet,
in fact, doesn’t necessarily shun acidic foods. For more, read The pH Diet and Your Fertility.) As with all the other advice dished out in this
article, you should take this suggestion with a grain of salt … and an extra
dash or two if you’re trying for a boy.
Also, a recent study suggests that maintaining higher levels of
glucose—which means sustaining a high intake of food throughout the day—will
increase your chances of having a little boy. Consume a wide range of nutrients
such as potassium, calcium, and vitamins C, E, and B12. Breakfast, is
particularly important, so never skip!
Take Your Position
Another popular school of thought says that certain
sexual positions can improve your odds of having a boy. In ancient times,
beliefs abounded about the positions that would lead to male offspring, such as
having intercourse with your heads pointing north or having the would-be mother
sleep on the left. Discoveries in science over the centuries have led to
somewhat more complex theories about positioning (and a lot else). For one
thing, we now know for sure it’s the male who determines the sex of a child.
The mother always provides an X chromosome in the egg; the father contributes
either an X chromosome (yielding XX = girl) or a Y chromosome (yielding XY =
boy). Each individual spermatozoa carries either X or Y and the baby’s sex
depends on which one penetrates the egg most effectively first.
According to Dr. Landrum Shettles, MD, author
of How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby, deeper penetration
during intercourse seems to favor boys.
He explains that a woman’s vagina is most acidic
near the entrance, and—as mentioned before—some evidence suggests male sperm
don’t fare well in acidic environments. Shettles says deeper penetration puts
sperm closer to the egg, reducing the distance the sperm have to travel through
the acidic vagina. This gives faster-swimming Y-chromosome (male) sperm a head
start over the X-chromosome (female) sperm. Therefore, he recommends rear-entry
intercourse for couples who want a boy. (Do I really have to clarify
“rear-entry”? OK, fine … he’s talking about “doggy-style,” people. There, I
wrote it.)
Get the Timing Right
Other medical experts also believe that Y sperm
(boys) swim faster than X sperm (girls). However, girl sperm typically are more
robust and live longer in the reproductive tract than the boy sperm.
So what does this theory mean to you? In a
nutshell, if you’re hoping for a boy you should try to abstain from sex for
several days before ovulation and then have intercourse as close to ovulation
as possible. This increases the likelihood that the boy sperm (the faster
swimmers) will beat out the girl sperm to the egg, and not have to survive too
long while waiting around for the egg to show up. You’ll have to do some very
careful calendar watching or take an ovulation test to determine precisely when you’re ovulating.
Boxers or Briefs?
Sperm are stored “outside” the body for a reason.
They can’t tolerate excessive heat and the testicles’ independent structure and
considerable surface area keep them safe from the elevated core temperatures
inside the body. Some people claim that Y-chromosome sperm (boys) are even less
tolerant of heat than X-chromosome sperm. So, if you’re trying for a boy, ask
your mate to wear boxers for a while. This will keep things cool and give his
“boys” some breathing room.
A cool bath or an ice pack to the scrotum would
take matters further, but it’s probably a rare male who would be that keen
on producing a son.
Crank up the Coffee-Maker
Based on his research, Dr. Shettles says that
you’re more likely to conceive a boy if your man drinks a strong cup of
caffeinated coffee just before intercourse. Why does this work? Shettles says
he’s not sure—but if anything, it will give your mate a little extra energy
boost for the deed!
The jury’s not unanimous on whether caffeine for women trying to get pregnant is such a good idea, so you might want to opt
for decaf while he goes high-test.
Down Some Cough Syrup
Some people claim that if a woman takes a dose of
cough syrup a couple of hours before intercourse, she’s more likely to have a
boy. Supporters of this theory say that the medicine works by thinning the
cervical mucous (just as it thins respiratory mucous when you have a cough),
making conditions more favorable for sperm, especially those fast Y swimmers.
The key ingredient that makes this work is guaifenesin, so if you’re going that
route, look for a product that contains it.
Make It Quick
During my research, I spoke with two different
mothers who each have one girl and one boy. They both said pretty much the same
thing in so many words: To conceive a boy, you should have unplanned,
unromantic intercourse.
“Our son was conceived on my husband’s lunch break
from work,” says Casey in Birmingham. “No soft music, no candles—just a
wham-bam, thank you ma’am, and get back to work.”
Holly from Atlanta gives similar advice. “If you
want a boy, your drunken husband should attack you on the living room floor on
a random weeknight,” she says, laughing. “You should also have no idea where
you are in your monthly cycle. That’s how we conceived our son.”
“Basically, a boy can be conceived with little
time, absolutely zero romance, and the high possibility that you could get
caught in the act,” Casey puts it simply.
Pay the Big Bucks
If you’re absolutely desperate to have a boy, you
could try just shelling out $20,000. Scientists have discovered a way to ensure
that you’ll have a girl or boy through in vitro fertilization (IVF)—where the
egg and sperm first meet in the laboratory, not your body. The procedure is a
complex medical one that carries a hefty price tag and that couples generally
only opt for when all other avenues to conception have been unsuccessfully
attempted.
Many people consider this kind of sex selection to
be immoral and unnatural and, indeed, some physicians will not test for the
embryo’s sex before implanting it. Then again, the moral issue is not a common
one so far, as most couples can’t afford this much green just to get the baby’s
nursery painted blue.
Adoption is
another route where you can be assured of your child’s sex. Barring these last
two approaches, all you can do is try, hope that fate (er, make that biology)
gives you what you want, and love the result regardless

How Gender Selection is Done
How is Gender selection (sex selection) done?
Patients that desire to have a child of a specific sex undergo a process that
extracts multiple eggs from the mother and these eggs are fertilized with the
father's sperm. This technique is known as IVF. The joining of sperm and egg
will produce embryos. The embryos are then tested to find out the genetic
makeup of each embryo. During this genetic testing we can determine the sex of
the embryo as well as test for other chromosomal abnormalities or genetic
disorders. Once the genetic makeup is known the desired embryo or embryos are
transferred back into the mothers uterus.

how to conceive twins
The idea of having twins tends to polarise people.
Some couples say they’d love the chance to parent two babies and others react
in an entirely different way. If you are a twin or have twin siblings then your
concept of the reality is likely to be very different to someone who’s never
had anything to do with more than one baby at a time.
Are twins common?
Many reproductive experts believe that as humans we
probably have more twin pregnancies than any of us are aware of. Technological
advances have found that it is reasonably common for there to be more than one
embryo conceived and implanted, but of these, only one is viable and survives.
How do twins
happen?
If you are keen to increase your chances of
conceiving two babies then it’s important to understand how twins are made.
There are two types of twins; identical and
non-identical. Identical or monozygotic twins are formed when one egg is
fertilized by one sperm which then divides into two separate embryos. Each
shares exactly the same genetic components and identical genetic structures.
Identical twins also share a placenta.
Non-identical or dizygotic twins form from two
separate eggs being fertilised by two separate sperm. These twins are their own
unique little individuals and share no more genetic composition than siblings
with the same parents. Each baby in a non-identical twin pair will have its own
placenta.
Another name for non-identical twins is fraternal;
the other name for identical twins is non-fraternal.
What about twins in
families?
Twins do run in families. But the genetic
predisposition for having twins only applies to the mother. It is her family
history which influences the chances of her having hyper ovulation.
Any woman can have identical twins and family
history does not play a role with these.
What are the odds
of having twins?
Currently in Australia 1.6% of all pregnancies
result in multiple births and of these, 98% are twins. Naturally conceived
twins occur once in around every eighty nine births. The majority of twins who
are born are non identical and a result of two eggs being fertilised.
Some fraternal twins look very similar; others
share some resemblance whilst the remainder may not even look the slightest bit
related.
What will help
boost my chances of having twins?
- Being older rather than younger helps. It seems to be a twist of nature that just before a woman enters peri-menopause, her ovaries start releasing more than one egg each month. This “fertility spike” is also influenced by a surge of oestrogen. Fertility research has proven that twin pregnancies are much more common in women who are over 35 years. But this only applies to non-identical twins.
- Have fertility assistance such as in vitro fertilisation or take fertility drugs. These stimulate the ovaries to support more than one ovarian follicle each month towards maturity. The result is that more than one egg is released.
- Pick your own genetics carefully! Though we all know this is impossible. But if you come from a family where non-identical twins are common then your family history and genetic endowment means that you’ve got a greater chance of having them yourself. But identical twins can occur in any family.
- Be of African/American heritage. Women from this ethnic background have a distinctly higher rate of twin pregnancies.
- Having been pregnant before. Women who have previously had a baby or two have a higher chance of conceiving with twins.
- Have a big family. This theory is based on pure maths; the more times you conceive the greater the likelihood of conceiving more than one baby.
- Get pregnant while you are on the pill. Difficult as this can be overall, there is a higher incidence of women conceiving with twins when they are on oral contraceptives.
- Try to conceive straight after you have stopped taking the pill. The theory is that for the first couple of cycles the woman’s body is going through a hormonal readjustment phase.
- Already have a set of twins. Because the likelihood of conceiving with twins again is higher in women who’ve already had them.
- Be heavier rather than lighter so that you’ve got a higher body mass index (BMI). Some researchers claim that a woman with a BMI of greater than 30 boosts her chances. But considering a healthy range during the fertile years is 20-25 and 30 would put you into the overweight/obese category then this is not a healthy recommendation.
- Taller women tend to conceive more twins. But there is nothing you can do about your height, other than blame your parents!
- Take a folic acid supplement before you conceive. The general recommendation for women who are planning to conceive is to start taking folic acid supplements one month before conception.
- Encourage your partner to eat some oysters. The urban myth about oysters being an aphrodisiac is not entirely without basis. Oysters are high in zinc and this helps with sperm production. The more healthy and mobile his sperm are, the greater the likelihood of being able to fertilise an egg or two. If he’s keen to take supplements, the recommendation for men in their fertile years is 14mg/day. Green leafy vegetables, cereals, bread, seeds and wheat germ are all excellent sources of zinc.
- Be a twin yourself. Mothers who are twins are more likely to have twin babies. There is no influence on the male partner’s side, only the mother’s. But it does seem that fathers may pass the twin gene onto their daughters for their future conception possibilities.
- Eat more yams/sweet potatoes. It is a fact that more women conceive with twins who live in areas where yams are a major component of their diet. It seems that a naturally occurring chemical component of the yams helps to support ovarian function.
- Keep breastfeeding your older baby or toddler. Women who are producing prolactin and breastfeeding are more likely to conceive with twins. Though some women do not resume regular ovulation and menstrual cycles for the entire time they are breastfeeding; this is very individual.
What’s fact and
what’s fiction when having twins?
- The idea that conceiving twins skips a generation is not true. Although there can appear to be a pattern in some families of this happening, the odds of having identical twins is the same for every woman.
- Eating a diet which is high in dairy foods, milk and meat is said to help, especially at the time of ovulation. But there is no scientific evidence to support this.
- Alternative therapies do not increase the likelihood. There is no scientific evidence to support the theory that accupuncture, naturopathy, aromatherapy, chiropractic or flower essences increase the likelihood of having twins

How to Rekindle the Spark in Your Relationship
The honeymoon may be over, but that
doesn’t have to mean the end of romance. Go on, break out of your relationship
rut, reconnect with your partner, and fire up the passion that brought you
together in the first place.
Remember those fabulous qualities you
noticed in your partner when you started dating? Time and stress may have
brought their less-favorable traits into sharper focus, says psychologist
Elizabeth R. Lombardo, PhD. But their good qualities are probably still there.
Fixating on the negatives wouldn't
have worked in the beginning and it doesn't work now. "In marriage, it's
easy to freeze your partner into a fixed perception. Get out of that,"
says Sherrie Campbell, PhD. She is a marriage and family therapist in Yorba
Linda, Calif.
Make a list of what you fell in love
with and another list of good things you've discovered over time.
"Publicly brag about those amazing qualities your partner has,"
Campbell says. "Refrain from making him the brunt of a joke. Embrace his
positive qualities and let him know you've fully got his back."
One study found that couples who did
novel and arousing things together felt better about their relationships than
those who stuck with routine, mundane activities.
"It's amazing what getting out
of your normal routine and pushing your comfort boundaries will do for your
love life,"
The trick is to pick something fun
and exciting, not just pleasant. Ride a roller coaster. Visit a far-flung
destination.
Another option is to get competitive,
suggests Rachel DeAlto, a communication and relationship expert in Point
Pleasant
"When you're physically
competing and experiencing new things together, those dopamine levels soar,
which replicates those early butterflies and gets you excited," she
says. Try one-on-one activities like tennis, racquetball, skiing, hiking, or
fishing.
"So many
couples hold back kissing, touching, or holding each other until they have time
or the desire to have sex," But that's a mistake. Researchers have found
that affectionate touch boosts the body's feel-good hormones.
Hug your partner.
Hold hands. Be playful with touch.
"Whisper sweet
and adoring things into your partner's ear. Brush against him in a sexually
seductive way," says Meyers. "Affection is a way to make love all day
outside of the bedroom."
Having fun during
sex, instead of doing it for obligation's sake, can stoke the fires of your
relationship. "Sex is the playground of a marriage," says Campbell.
"Fun doesn't have to mean you have to engage in sexual acrobatics; it just
means have fun."
Talk.
Do you spend a lot
of time trying read your partner’s mind? Limit the guess-work by being open and
honest; it can bring you closer. "Ask your partner what he or she needs
from you. Take turns. The goal is to show more and see more of each other,
rather than defend the status quo," says Meyers. The rewards run deep.
Great conversation often leads to more open, loving sex, she says.
Every discussion
doesn't have to be serious. Lighthearted laughter goes a long way in lifting
your spirits and reconnecting. Have fun. Crack a joke. Revel in the humor of a
situation together. "There is nothing sexier than a smile and a happy
partner," says Campbell.
Focus on you.
What fuels your
passion? Maybe it's having an exciting career or training for a half marathon.
No matter -- just get out and do it. When you love yourself and your life, you
bring more energy and interest into your relationship.
"Independence
and a sense of purpose are sexy," explains Campbell. When you take care of
your own needs and pursue what you're passionate about, you become less
predictable and more interesting to your partner.
It's a win-win
situation. You'll be more confident and peaceful as you keep evolving, and your
relationship will thrive.
Remember those
things you did when you were romancing your new love? Make a list and do them
again now, suggests Paul N. Weinberg. He is the co-author of The I
Factor: Simple Insights for Connecting in Your Personal Relationships.
"It could be as simple as a way you kissed your partner on the cheek or as
elaborate as the effort you put into a special date."
Identify your
relationship's strengths, then build on them, say Les Parrott, III, PhD, and
Leslie Parrott, EdD, husband-and-wife founders of the Center for Relationship
Development in Seattle. Know what works well in your relationship and do more
of it.
Finally, dream big.
Envision a future together than inspires you. Maybe it's a home bustling with a
big family or vacations to new, exotic places. Whatever your dream, you can
create a plan now to start making it happen
Turn Mediocre Sex into Great Sex
How to bring back the heat and get what you want in bed.
The lights are low.
A fire smolders in the fireplace. Two wineglasses sit, half empty, on the
nightstand. Your clothes lie in a heap on the floor. You reach for each other.
The two of you tumble to the bed, and...
Blah.
No explosions of
passion. No breathy proclamations of desire. No tumultuous climax. Then you
wonder: How can everyone in movies and romance novels be having fiery,
combustible sex when you and your partner barely create a spark?
Sexologist Logan
Levkoff, author of the eBook How to Get Your Wife to Have Sex With You, says,
"TV shows and movies give us this very skewed representation of what sex
is supposed to be like. Everyone seems to be climaxing and having orgasms
all the time from whatever they're doing. When you grow up on a diet of that,
and when your real life doesn't match, you think, 'There's something wrong with
me,' or, 'There's something wrong with my partner.'"
Real-life sex can
almost never measure up to the passion portrayed on the screen, sex therapist
Isadora Alman says. "People don't talk about the fact that it's likely
that in an odd position you'll pass gas or the love of your life will take you
in his arms and have bad breath."
Sex in the real
world isn't perfect, and it doesn't always end with an earth-shattering climax
-- but it doesn't have to,. "Good sex doesn't necessarily have to be about
an orgasm. It can just be an emotionally fulfilling experience between
partners."
Getting What You
Want in Bed
Even when
everything else in the relationship is working, sexual styles aren't always
compatible. You like long foreplay sessions. Your partner is ready to go in an
instant. You long for wet, sensual kisses. He prefers dry, chaste pecks.
"Sex is not just naturally perfect,". "There is the energy of a
new relationship that is positive -- the excitement and the eagerness and the
passion. And the negative is that you bump noses or knees because you just
haven't learned how to dance together ye
Getting What You
Want in Bed continued...
But even long-term
couples can struggle in the bedroom. Though we can easily tell our partner what
shirt we'd like him to wear, or what we'd like to cook together for dinner, we
tend to get tongue-tied when it comes to the topic of sex.
"People tend
to be very sensitive when it comes to talking about sex," says
relationship and family therapist Rachel Sussman. "They're afraid of
hurting their partner's feelings, so they don't tell them what they like or
don't like. But you're not going to get it unless you ask for it."
So how do you tell
your partner what you want without bruising his or her ego? "I think it's
really in how you bring up the statement," Levkoff says. "'I would
love it if we...' or, 'Could we try this?' You don't want to make them feel bad
about what they've done or haven't done."
You can have the
conversation whenever and wherever it's most comfortable for you. But before
you talk, you need to know exactly what it is about your sex life that bothers
you. Is it a question of technique? Personal hygiene? Timing? "Once you
know what isn't working for you," Alman says, "there are things you
can suggest that can mitigate those circumstances."
For example, if
something about your partner's smell is turning you off, suggest taking a bath
together before making love. If you crave more foreplay, ask for slower segues
into sex.
Before you can tell
your partner what you want him or her to do in bed, you need to know what you
like. "I think especially for women, they've got to explore their own
bodies," Sussman says. "You have to masturbate. Get a vibrator. Get
some books. Teach yourself how to orgasm."
When It's Just Not
Working
After you've tried
talking and the sex still isn't working, what then?
"Experiment
together," Sussman says. "Learn to get to know each other's
bodies."
Try some sex aids.
Read books with pictures (such as The Joy of Sex), or watch an
educational video together, Alman says. Not porn, but explicit videos in which
a voice-over explains what's happening in the scenes
When It's Just Not
Working continued...
Sometimes, the
problem is a physical one, such as premature ejaculation. Or it may be that
the stress from your job is bleeding over
into the bedroom and disrupting your sex life. In those cases it can help to
see a sex therapist. "We unravel why you two are not getting along,"
Alman says. "And then we try to remedy that."
If you're still
unsatisfied, is it ever OK to fake it in bed?
"If you're
faking it, you're doing yourself a disservice because you're not learning what
really turns you on," Sussman says. "I think eventually, it takes a
toll. Your partner's going to realize that you're disconnected."
Can sex ever be bad
enough to consider ending a relationship over? Possibly. "You might really
love somebody and the sex is never going to be better than OK. You have to
decide whether you can live with that," Alman says.
Whenever you're
considering a breakup or divorce, you need to weigh every element of the relationship and not just the
sex. "You can't have everything in life," Sussman says. "If you
have a wonderful relationship and you love each other and you have kids but the
sex isn't great, maybe you can live with that."
Sussman says that
every couple has the potential to have good sex if you’re willing to put a
little effort into it. "If you're two emotionally and physically healthy
people, you should be able to work with what you've got. Not everybody needs to
be hanging off the chandelier," Sussman says. "You can get better.
But you have to practice, and you have to be open to discussing it and getting
help when you need it."
6 Common Sex Mistakes Women Make
Is your sex life as
good as it could be? Are you sure? Experts say even satisfied, sexually
confident women don’t always know when they’re making between-the-sheets
blunders.
Here are six common
mistakes, and the simple ways to remedy each one.
Mistake No. 1: You
wait until you’re “in the mood.”
If you put off sex
until your brain and body are primed for it, you probably won’t get frisky very
often. That’s because many women don’t feel desire until they’re already into
the act itself.
“Research shows
that foreplay, and even just touching, prompts your body to send a message to
your brain that activates sexual interest,” says Scott Haltzman, MD. He’s an
associate clinical professor of medicine at Florida State University.
Even if you don’t
feel like you’re ready down there, that doesn’t mean you aren’t turned on.
“Even younger women may find that they’re not as lubricated as they’d like,”
says Madeleine Castellanos, MD. If this is a problem for you, try using lube
during foreplay, she says. Castellanos is a psychiatrist who specializes in
sexual dysfunction.
Mistake No. 2: You
put your partner’s pleasure first.
Sex is the time to
be selfish. Putting all your energy into pleasing your partner doesn’t make you
a better lover. It makes you a less fulfilled one, and that can be a downer for
both of you.
“Biologically,
women are hardwired to put others’ needs first,” Castellanos says. “But that
instinct can put a damper on your sex life.”
The solution: Slow
things down. “Women take longer than men to climax, and often even to get
aroused. That’s OK,” she says. “Don’t feel guilty. Your pleasure is a turn-on
to your partner.”
It’s equally
important to be honest with yourself -- and your partner -- about what works
for you. Don’t like a particular position? Speak up. Too tired to get it on at
10 p.m.? Schedule an a.m. sex session instead
Mistake No. 3: You
think he’s always up for sex.
If he doesn’t want
to have sex, or he can’t get an erection, it doesn’t mean he isn’t into you or
that he wants another woman.
“Stress, exhaustion, and depression can dull a man’s libido, the same way they can affect a
woman’s sex drive,” Haltzman says.
Men have a
“recovery period” after a climax, and that time usually gets longer as they get
older.
Mistake No. 4: You
let body image stand between you and good sex.
Want another good
reason to love yourself as you are? It improves your love life. Research shows
that women with a strong self-image have sex more often, feel more at ease when
they’re naked with their partner, and even have more orgasms than those who
don’t feel good about themselves.
The truth is, “the
majority of men have a passionate attraction for their partners, and are
eager to have sex with them,” Haltzman says. "They’re not worried about
what they [women] are wearing, whether they’ve showered, or if they’ve put on
weight.”
If you need a
morale boost, don’t put yourself down and wait for your partner to cheer you up
with a compliment. Instead, ask positive questions like, “Do you think you’d
enjoy having sex with me tonight?” or, “What do you think the sexiest part of
me is?”
Mistake No. 5: You
don’t use your imagination.
Couples who have
sex regularly are happier and more likely to stay together. To keep the spark
going (and your bond strong) if you’ve been together for a long time, you need
to “fantasize,” Castellanos says.
“Many women think
it’s a betrayal to imagine a different person or scenario, but it’s not.
Fantasies trigger desire, which allows you to have a fulfilling sexual
encounter with your partner. It’s win-win.”
Mistake No. 6: You
think self-love is only for singles.
Masturbation is a great way to get in touch
with your own desires, and to find out what turns you on. It can ease problems
with vaginal tightening and dryness before, during, and after menopause, too.
Don’t worry about
“using up” all your sexual interest: “Masturbation actually increases desire
in women,” Castellanos says. “It makes them more responsive to their partner
during sexual activity, and can up the odds of achieving orgasm during intercourse. It’s really
one of the best things women can do to improve their sex lives.
Mistake:
Under-Focusing on Yourself continued...

How to Conceive Twins Naturally
While you will
ultimately not be able to control how many babies your pregnancy produces,
there are a few steps you can take which may increase your chances of having
twins.
§ Increase your folic
acid intake- Taking a folic acid supplement has been found to increase a woman's
chance of conceiving twins. This supplement also helps prevent neural tube
defects when combined with a multi-vitamin which helps ensure that any babies
that you conceive will be healthy and less likely to suffer from defects.
§ Eat dairy products
and wild yams- Eating dairy products has also been linked to an increase in multiple
pregnancies. Women who regularly eat dairy products have been found to be up to
five times more likely to give birth to twins than vegan or vegetarian women
who did not consumed these products. Some scientists believe that it is not
necessarily the dairy products that are increasing these occurrences of multiple
pregnancies but the growth hormones that tend to be in milk in countries like
the United States.Eating wild yams can also increase your chances of developing
twins. Chemicals in the wild yam can over-stimulate the ovaries which can
result in more than one egg being dropped during ovulation. This may be why the
likelihood of having twins is more likely in African cultures which frequently
consume this substance as part of their ethnic diet.
§ Use birth control
pills- Birth control pills can also play a role in helping you conceive
twins. When women stop using birth control pills it takes some time for the
body to find its natural rhythm again, which can cause the body to have a
higher hormone flux than normal during the first one or two cycles a woman experiences.
If you manage to conceive during this time, there is a much larger chance that
two eggs will be available in the uterus, which can lead to the conception of
fraternal twins.
§ Increase the length
of breastfeed - If you have already had one child you can increase the length in
which you breastfeed if you want to increase your chances of having twins
later. Studies have shown that women who are breastfeeding while they try to
conceive are nine times more likely to conceive twins with their next pregnancy.
§ Have more children- Having many
children also increased the chances that you will have twins. The more times
you become pregnant, the easier it is for your body to produce multiple eggs
during ovulation, which can increase your chances of conceiving twins.
- Location and timing of birth- Location and timing may also seem to have something to do with the likelihood that twins will develop. In the United States, those living in Nebraska, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts are more likely to have multiple births than those living in warmer states. The number of twins born each year also increases in July and decreases in January. Scientists believe this might have something to do with the amount of daylight available in these locations and time periods, which can increase the secretion of the Follicle Stimulating Hormone.

How Diabetes Affect Your Eyes and Eye
Care Tips
When you have type 1
or type 2 diabetes, you're more likely to have eye problems than someone
without it. High blood sugar can damage the tiny blood vessels in your eyes
over time. That can lead to an eye disease called diabetic retinopathy. High
blood sugar can also lead to cataracts and glaucoma. So take care of your
diabetes -- and keep up with annual eye exams -- to take care of your eyes.
Diabetes and Eye
Problems
Diabetic
retinopathy: At some point, nearly 1 out of 3 people with diabetes has retinopathy --
damage to the blood vessels in the retina. That’s the lining at the back of
your eye. Non-proliferative retinopathy, which doesn't usually threaten your
eyesight, is most common.
If you continue to
have high blood sugar over several years, though, you could go on to have a
more severe disease known as proliferative diabetic retinopathy. It's called
"proliferative" because new blood vessels start to grow on the
surface of the retina. These blood vessels are fragile and can leak blood or
fluid. This causes scarring of the retina and long-term vision loss.
Diabetic retinopathy
may also cause macular edema. This happens when fluid leaks into the part of
the retina that helps give you the sharp, central vision. You need that for reading,
driving, and seeing fine details. Instead, things look blurry.
Many studies have
shown that you can cut your odds of losing your vision from retinopathy and
macular edema with strict control of your blood sugars, blood pressure, and
cholesterol.
If you find and treat
diabetic retinopathy early, you can slow or even reverse some forms of vision
loss. If you have diabetes, you should see an eye doctor at least once a year.
If your annual exams are normal, you may be able to have follow-up exams every
2-3 years.
There are many ways
to treat proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Your doctor may target the retina
with a special laser to shrink the new blood vessels. This can keep your vision
better longer. It works best if used before the fragile new vessels have
started to bleed.
If the damage to your
blood vessels is worse and they already bleed, you may need a vitrectomy. This
procedure takes out abnormal blood vessels from the inside of your eyeball.
These fragile vessels can tear, causing bleeding in your eye. You may also need
treatment to repair a detached retina or damaged macula caused by this new
blood vessel growth.
If you have macular
edema, laser surgery or drugs placed inside your eye can slow leaking around
the macula.
Diabetes and
cataracts: You're more likely to have cataracts -- and at a younger age -- if you
have diabetes. Cataracts cloud your eye's lens and cause blurred vision. If you
have mild cataracts, sunglasses and glare-control glasses can help. If it's
severe, cataract surgery replaces the cloudy lens with a man-made lens to
improve your vision.
Diabetes and
glaucoma: Having diabetes doubles your odds of glaucoma, a condition that puts
added pressure in your eye. This extra pressure can damage the retina and the
optic nerve, the main eye nerve for sight. You likely won't have symptoms early
on. Some people slowly lose vision or see bright halos or colored rings around
lights. Glaucoma is treated with prescription eyedrops to lower eye pressure.
In some cases, you may need laser treatment or surgery.
Eye Care: 6 Steps
to Prevent Eye Problems
Protect your eyesight
with these eye care tips:
1. Manage your blood
sugar.
One of the best
things you can do for your eyes is to keep your blood sugar at near-normal
levels. Steady blood sugar control can slow the damage to the tiny blood
vessels in your eyes. This helps prevent or delay the start of eye problems
linked to diabetes. Two to four times a year, have an A1c blood test, which
measures your glucose levels for the past 2 to 3 months. This helps your doctor
to better plan your treatment. Aim for a test result of around 7% or less.
2. Manage your blood
pressure.
Control your blood
pressure to help slow or prevent eye disease caused by diabetes. Have your
blood pressure checked by your doctor at every visit. If a low-salt diet,
staying at a healthy weight, and exercise aren't enough to keep it under
control, you may need drugs to bring it down to a healthier level. The goal for
most people with diabetes is blood pressure of less than 140/80
3. Have yearly
"dilated" eye exams.
An eye doctor needs
to widen your pupils with special eyedrops to look for early signs of damage to
tiny eye blood vessels. Get a full eye exam every year, so your eye doctor can
find and treat problems early.
If you are pregnant
or planning to get pregnant, get an eye exam early in your pregnancy and stay
in touch with your eye doctor throughout your pregnancy.
4. Watch for warning
signs.
The sooner you notice
an eye problem, the more likely treatment will help. Call your doctor if you
have any of these symptoms:
- Blurry, cloudy, or double vision
- Flashing lights or rings around lights
- Blank, dark, or floating spots in your vision
- Pain, pressure, or constant redness in your eyes
- Trouble seeing signs or straight lines
- Trouble seeing out of the corner of your eye
- Any sudden change in your vision
5. Quit
smoking.
Smoking damages your
blood vessels and raises your odds of eye problems, which are already higher
because you have diabetes. If you smoke, get help from your doctor, a support
group, or a smoking cessation program so you have strength to quit -- and stay
smoke-free. The American Cancer Society and other groups sponsor 800-QUIT-NOW,
a web site and phone service that gives free advice and support for quitting.
6. Take heart:
Diabetes care and eye care work together.
It doesn't take a lot
of extra work to take care of your eyes with diabetes. The steps you take to
manage diabetes also help keep your eyes healthy. Follow your diabetes meal
plan, get enough exercise, and take any diabetes drugs as prescribed. This
helps keep your blood sugar levels healthy -- and gives you the best possible
chance of keeping your eyesight strong
How to Conceive a Girl
After having a baby boy in the house, most of the
parents long for a baby girl so that they have a balance and a complete family.
Then how to conceive a girl will become their one of the most frequent asked
questions. Some people might just tend to prefer having a daughter over a son.
In spite of the fact that there has been no scientific technique, many people
tend to find answers as to “How to conceive a girl.” There are some ways which
might not guarantee but increase the chances of having a baby girl.
Things You Should Know About Sex Selection
The gender of a baby is determined by
the chromosomes. If the genetic make-up constitutes of chromosomes
"XX", a girl child is conceived. And if the genetic make-up is
"XY", a baby boy is conceived. The mother has a "XX"
chromosomal setting and gives the "X" part during procreation. The father
has a "XY" setting and can contribute "X" chromosome or
"Y" chromosome. This means that the gender of the baby is determined
by the father.
Over 200 million sperms are
ejaculated in the vagina during intercourse, containing the "X" and
"Y" chromosomes. A single sperm will fertilize the ovum to create a
baby. To help the "X" chromosome from the father to fertilize the
ovum, natural methods have been researched, which could increase the
probability of this happening.
6 Effective Ways on How to Conceive a Girl
Various methods have been found to
increase the chances of conceiving a baby girl. Although they have been proven
highly effective, not every method might work for you.
1. Try the Shettles Method
It is important to know your cycle or
take the ovulation test to know your cycle for this method. You have to have
sex every day for 2-4 days prior to your ovulation. You should abstain from sex
1-2 days before ovulation and several days after that. This is to ensure that
the slowly-swimming, more resilient girl sperms remain and fertilize the ovum.
Having sex on ovulation day will result in the fast-swimming boy sperms to
fertilize the egg. This method claims a success rate of 75%.
2. Get Busy in Your Bedroom
This theory recommends having all the
sex in the way you want. If you want to conceive a baby girl, you should start
having sex as much as possible a few days prior to ovulation. Increasing in sex
will decrease the sperm count and this will lead to less number of male sperms
(fast swimmers) getting a chance to fertilize the ovum.
3. Try Certain Sexual Positions
Certain sex positions are more
favorable when it comes to conceiving a girl child. It is said that the
Missionary position is beneficial in this scenario as it limits the level of
penetration. Moreover, the further the sperms are ejaculated to the cervix, the
higher the chances of conceiving a girl. This is because, unlike girl sperms,
boy sperms can swim only for short durations. Any position which does not give
deep penetration or are shallow can be experimented with. Another reason for
this is the pH level of the vagina; it is more acidic to the entrance, which is
favorable for the girl sperm.
4. Avoid Orgasm
This is one technique which may not
be very popular with the women, but if it means having a good chance of
conceiving a girl, it must be worth it. Orgasm should be avoided by the woman.
When a woman reaches orgasm, an alkaline secretion is released which is good
for the boy sperms. Without orgasm, the environment will remain acidic and thus
girl sperm have good chances of reaching the egg.
5. Adjust Your Eating Habit
- Eat more fruits and vegetables. A vegetarian diet is said to help, especially foods like spinach, nuts and broccoli. Calcium and Magnesium rich foods, like fruits and rice, are also good in this scenario.
- Eat acidic foods. An acidic environment is favorable for girl sperms; hence, foods which contain acidic in nature are also good. Eating them on those days leading up to ovulation is recommended. So, you can have soda, chocolates, citrus foods and vinegar. Also, it is advised to avoid alkaline foods if you want a baby girl.
- Keep a low-salt diet. Maintaining low-salt levels in your diet will also improve the chances of having a girl. Cut off those highly-saline foods such as salted meats, blue cheeses and processed food.
6. Take a Hot Bath
It is said that girl sperms are more
tolerant to warm temperatures, so taking a warm bath before sex can be
beneficial if you want to conceive a girl child. However, you should not make
this a practice since the ambient temperature for the male sexual organs is on
the lower side. It would take over two months for deleterious effects to show
on the sperm coun
How to Get Pregnant Fast
When you decide that it’s time to
start a family, you hardly stand to wait. While ultimately you are at the mercy
of nature when you are trying to conceive, there are some things you can do and
things you can avoid that might help you know how to get pregnant fast and
effectively. Listed below are seven methods approved by experts for helping
people get pregnant.
How
to Get Pregnant Fast
If you want to get some effective
options on how to get pregnant fast, the following can be good selections for
you to take as a reference.
1. Get a Preconception Checkup
Before you start trying to conceive
it may be helpful to start taking folic acid and prenatal vitamins which can
help protect you against birth defects. Talk to your doctor to ensure you do
not have any underlying health problems that could affect your ability to get pregnant
and stock up on the vitamins you might need for a healthy pregnancy.
2. Know When You Ovulate
Knowing when you ovulate, or an egg
is released from your ovary, will help you determine when you are able to get
pregnant. You can use several methods to predict ovulation so you can determine
when to have sex rather than continuing to try without being sure if an egg is
available to be fertilized. If you have irregular periods you may need to work
with a doctor as this will make predicting ovulation difficult.
3. Have Sex at the Right Time
When you know your ovulation schedule
you can plan to have sex when you will be the most fertile, three days before
through the day of your ovulation. Have a range of days for having sex as sperm
can live in your body for up to 5 days so this will increase your chances of
getting pregnant. If you are unsure of your fertile days, have sex every other
day to ensure that there will be a good supply of healthy sperm available when
it is time. Also ensure that your partner has ejaculated before at least once
before you start trying for sex to ensure there is not a buildup of dead sperm.
The following video explains clearly
how to calculate your ovulation days, when you are most fertile and when you
should have sex to boost your chances of getting pregnant:
4. Have Sex in the Correct Way
- Don't worry about the best positions
There are several tips about which
sex positions are most likely to get you pregnant, but these are just myths.
The only truth is that having sex in an upright position may limit the sperm’s
ability to swim upstream, though this is quite minimal.
- Lie down after sex
Lie down for 10-15 minutes after sex
and avoid going to the bathroom during this time. This will help the sperm get
into the cervix. In spite of common myths, you do not need to keep your feet in
the air during this rest period.
- Don't overdo it
Have sex every other night to give
your body a healthy supply of sperm. Having sex too often will only deplete a
man’s sperm count, and if the woman is not ovulating having sex more often will
not increase your chances of getting pregnant.
5. Quit Unhealthy Habits
- Exercising to maintain an ideal weight is healthy, but you can take this too far. If you are over-exercising it could cause you to not ovulate. In order to increase your chances of pregnancy, perform moderate exercise like brisk walking for 2.5 hours each week.
- You also need to cut back on dangerous substances like caffeine. Consuming more than two cups of coffee a day can lower your chances of getting pregnant.
- Quit smoking as well. Not only does this decrease fertility and lower your ovulation levels, but there are numerous health risks associated with smoking while pregnant.
6. Keep a Healthy Diet
Eating healthy and exercising can
help you get pregnant. Foods with zinc, fruits and vegetables can all increase
your chances. Eating green vegetables like broccoli and spinach will also
increase your supply of folic acid which can help make a healthy baby. Getting
plenty of calcium is also essential for a healthy pregnancy. Try to eat a
balanced diet with foods from all the food groups, including lean protein,
dairy and vitamins for best results. The following video explains what you
should eat during pregnancy, but you should also follow those dietary rules when
trying to get pregnant:
7. Get Off Birth Control Pills
It can take a few months for birth
control to leave your system, so get off the pill before you start seriously
trying to conceive. This will help you learn to track your cycle and pinpoint
your ovulation time to make it easier to conceive later. If you are getting off
birth control but not ready to conceive yet, use a barrier method such as a
condom to prevent pregnancy until it is the right time.
8. Change Your Lifestyle to Increase Sperm Count
Strong, healthy sperm are much more
likely to fertilize an egg. You can ensure your sperm are healthy by getting
enough vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium, folic acid and zinc in your diet. Avoid
items like alcohol, tobacco and recreational drugs that reduce sperm counts and
cause sperm to function poorly. Items like hot baths, saunas or hot tubs that
raise your body temperature can also kill off sperm.
9. Know When to Get Help
Around 6 out of 10 couples trying to
conceive naturally are able to do so after 3 months. If it has been longer you
should seek help from a specialist, especially if you are older. Those between
35-40 that have been trying to conceive for 6 months or more should seek
fertility help immediately. You should also get assistance right away if you
suspect either partner has a fertility problem

Super
Bowl Eats
Will you be one of the more than 100 million Americans tuning into the
Super Bowl to watch the Patriots vs. the Seahawks? If so, beware of the blitz
on chips and dip, nachos, wings, pizza and beer. These football faves can
quickly pile on more than 3,500 calories (nearly two days’ worth).
Below are five of my winning penalty-free game day eats:
1. Veg Out: Skip the high calorie chips and
veg out! I always serve a large tray of veggies with healthy dips during the
game. Veggies pack a powerful nutritional punch in few calories. For instance,
a serving of baby carrots is just 35 calories compared to 150 calories in a
serving of regular potato chips. Plus veggies have fiber to keep you fuller
longer. Celery, tomatoes, broccoli, and peppers are ideal for your veggie
platter. If you do offer chips, look for bean-based crisps or pita chips that
have less saturated fat per serving.
2. Skinny Dip-it: Most cheesy, creamy dips are
high in calories and artery-clogging saturated fat. My go-to dip is hummus
because it’s made from beans and keeps sat fat low. Sabra Classic has just 35
calories and less than a gram of saturated fat per tablespoon. And if you’re
serving sandwiches, hummus is a great alternative to mayo.
3. Holy Guacamole!: Guacamole is
a game day must-have. This year, Americans will devour a record number of fresh
avocados—240 million—during Super Bowl week. From a nutritional standpoint –
there’s a lot to celebrate. Avocados are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and
antioxidants. A tablespoon of guacamole has about 30 calories, 2.5 grams of
fat, most of which is unsaturated. Try my favorite slimmed down guac recipe.
4. Perfect Pizza: It won’t be game day without
pizza, but did you know that just 2 slices from some delivery chains can cost
you nearly 600 calories and over 10 grams of saturated fat? For my parties, I
always order thin crust (whole wheat, when available), and I ask for twice the
veggies and half of the cheese and meat toppings to slash sat fat.
5. Sip Smart: With just a couple of beers and a
few sodas, you’ve added over 500 calories to your game day without eating a
bite. Studies show that calories that we drink don’t leave us feeling full like
food does. Save most your calories for eating and sip smarter… swap out sports
drinks and full-calorie colas for lightly sweetened (or unsweetened) iced tea,
seltzer, or diet soda. If you drink alcohol, remember that you’ll be racking up
calories quickly. Regular beer has 150 and mixed drinks often pile on 300 or
more calories per drink. If I drink, I’ll have an ultra-light beer (some are as
low as 55 calories) or I’ll jazz up sparkling water with infusions of lemons,
limes or berries.
